It's equivalent to a decent pair of desktop speakers. I bought this for a Media Center in the bedroom. I would return it if I wouldn't lose money on the shipping. If you want a decent soundbar, you have to shell out at least a couple hundred for it. I was somewhat dissapointed with the sound quality. It is by no means anything near virtual surround sound.
The Altec Lansing definitely has better bottom-end. It lacked bottom end. People's voices on TV, for example, where a bit tinny. There's not a whole lot to write about.they sound okay, not any where near what the description sounded like. But I feel that the stereo separation of my previous sound-bar was betterAll-in-all I'm pretty happy with it and since I found it here used at a nice price I'm satisfied. I have a large-screen Dell with the Logitech Z5500 to watch movies/TV, but when I just want sound and want to conserve energy I have a second source tucked out of the way. I haven't experienced "Immersive sound" yet and I don't think I will. I had a Dell sound-bar and was happy with it, but the sound was a bit thin.
I've moved it behind the TV for esthetic reasons and there's no noticable decrease in sound quality. I bought the SoundBar to improve the poor sound quality on an otherwise excellent 22" Toshiba HDTV in my study. Just FYI, I tested the SoundBar with my Dell Inspiron laptop and the sound quality and easy set-up are just as impressive. It's certainly not a home theater replacement, but for the very reasonable Amazon pricetag ($50 when I purchased), it more than met my expectations. I wanted good basic speakers with minimal footprint, hassle, wires, etc. The SoundBar has a solid mid-range (plus decent bass) sound and fits my need perfectly.
Had I used it as is the speaker would have been upside-down. For the size of the speaker, it has a wonderfully rich bass response. All in all a great solution to the poor sound of 15" LCD TV's I used epoxy glue to mount it. I used it as a supplement to my 15" LCD TV/DVD in my kitchen (which was so low in volume when playing DVD's). I can now hear my TV loud and clear. As a side note.I did have to remove the bracket for mounting the speaker underneath the TV.
Over all - I would purchase again. ProsFits perfectly under monitor.Only two cords - power and PC connect.Easily hook up my iPod to side.Nice button on front for on/off and volume control.Button has a cool blue light above it.Price is fair.ConsNot the best sound - all the speakers are close together in this one unit so that is to be expected.
